Lights Out CT Welcomes Ash Creek Conservation Association as New Strategic Partner

Last night, the Ash Creek Conservation Association (ACCA) board voted to join the efforts of Lights Out Connecticut.

The Ash Creek Conservation Association is a non-profit community organization with a mission to advocate for the protection and restoration of the Ash Creek Tidal Estuary, in Fairfield County.

Ash Creek, which extends from Long Island Sound to the Rooster River, is critical habitat for dozens of migratory birds, like the White-throated Sparrow and Belted Kingfisher, which are prone to building collisions linked to light pollution. Ash Creek is the last salt water estuary in the region.

The two partners have pledged to work together to pass meaningful local and state lighting controls measures, including for St Mary’s-at-the-sea Park, in Bridgeport.

The timing of the partnership is especially poignant, after the mass mortality event that killed nearly 1,000 birds last month in Chicago.
