Architectural Tour: Bird-Friendly Buildings at Yale University

Join Lights Out Connecticut for an architectural tour of bird-friendly buildings at Yale. Since the university adopted a bird-friendly building policy in 2019, it has slowly made its campus more bird-friendly, building by building. Come see the results on a special guided tour by a bird-friendly building expert.
Many in the Connecticut bird Community have heard of Yale SOM's Edward P. Evans Hall because of reports of hundreds of songbirds dying at the building since it was constructed in 2014, including a Bicknell's Thrush. Over the last two years, portions of the building have been mitigated to prevent bird collisions.
It is estimated that every year, up to 2 billion birds die due to collisions with buildings in the United States, a problem that can be exacerbated by light pollution.
This walk will have a strong conservation angle, because it will focus on bird-friendly building practices and techniques to mitigate glass hazards at both new buildings and retrofits.
